FLORIDA TOWN INVESTIGATES SOVEREIGNTY PROTECTION
2009-08-24

Belleview City is a small town in central Florida. A resolution will soon go before City Commissioners urging every home owner to "maintain a firearm, together with ammunition" in order "to provide for the emergency management" of the city, as well as "to provide for and protect the safety, security and general welfare" of Belleview and its residents. The resolution is sponsored by an Ocala-based group that wants Belleview City to invoke sovereignty protection provided by the United States Constitution's 10th Amendment.

Aggregation of power to the federal government has prompted several states to pass resolutions designed to preserve local sovereignty. To our knowledge, this is one of the first attempts of a city to do so. The resolution's wording sounds much like the sentiments of Boston Massachusetts residents in the mid-1770s. It will be interesting to see if the resolution is adopted.

WEBSITE HAPPENINGS

Our 2007 request that the Supreme Court hear DC v Heller is the latest Articles & Letters entry. In it, Mary converts her hunting rifle to a banned "Assault Weapon" to show the foolishness of gun bans. The point of our request is that a California style rifle ban could not be challenged because the Supreme Court had not ruled on the 2nd Amendment's meaning.

The Patriot Posters Section presents the website's third poster - it's called ASSAULT MUSKETS. The poster ridicules the failed Clinton "Assault Weapon" ban while the supporting text suggests reasons for the President's anti-gun perspective.
